Florida Man Faces Five Years In Prison For Spraying Lady With Garden Hose

James Balasis was arrested and taken to jail after he sprayed his elderly neighbor Edna Rossi with a hose. He’s facing battery charges.

“He gets right in my face, and I’m afraid of him,” Rossi said.

Rossi called the sheriff’s office after a year long dispute with Balasis.

“He even locked my cat in his garage one day,” she said.

Neighbor Joe Picirilli also had encounters with Balasis.

“I’m sitting in my garage, and he thinks I’m spying on him. He starts swearing at me, and then he threatens me. He says ‘I’ll wipe you out before I leave here,’” Picirilli said.

Rossi’s husband said he saw Balasis spray his wife from the shoulders down, but he is more concerened about the verbal attacks.

“If I could only say on TV some of the words, I’d get arrested. You think Don Imus got in trouble, they would have killed me if I said what he said to my wife,” he said.

The Lee County Sheiff’s Office said “we wear many hats, and one of them is referee.”

Battery on someone 65 or older in Florida makes the crime a third degree felony. Balasis may face up to five years in prison if he is convicted.
